US Equestrian Updates MAAPP (Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies) for the 2025 Competition Year

On December 1, 2024, an updated MAAPP (Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies) for US Equestrian will go into effect. This update will include new information and revised policies, including the transportation, lodging, and electronic communications policies.

The updated MAAPP can be found here, and a list of noteworthy changes can be found here

The U.S. Center for SafeSport created the Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies as a collection of proactive prevention and training policies for participants within youth sports that include requirements for interactions between adults and minor athletes. The purpose of the MAAPP is to help create a safer and healthier environment in which minor athletes can thrive.

US Equestrian released its first MAAPP in 2019, with an updated version in 2022 supporting organizations and individuals in preventing abuse in sport.

Whether you are an equestrian or a parent of an equestrian, it is vital that you review and understand these policies and ensure that everyone in our community is complying with the requirements.

The Center will host free training sessions throughout 2025 that are specifically focused on successful implementation of the updated MAAPP. These training sessions will be available to members, as well as to parents. Dates and registration information for these training sessions will be available mid-December at maapp.uscenterforsafesport.org
